Revamping Big Square by Bringing Kenya's Fast-Casual Brand Online.

Big Square is a casual dining, Kenyan restaurant founded in 2012. Since then, it has expanded, opening ten stores in Nairobi — the capital city — and one store in Mombasa — a famous town in the coastal region. The brand had an online presence but the website was outdated; unresponsive to mobile, lacked visual appeal and the only functionality it had was the ability to redirect visitors to their social media pages. Not much thought was given to the brand's web presence and a facelift was necessary.

The brand had an online presence but the website was outdated; unresponsive to mobile, lacked visual appeal and the only functionality it had was the ability to redirect visitors to their social media pages. Not much thought was given to the brand's web presence and a facelift was necessary.

Face-lift

Since the brand had physical presence with stores that had a stylish interior, we sort to use that as our first source of inspiration for the new website.

Neon all the way

One important aspect the client wanted us to showcase with the website was the idea of having neon lighting. Reason was because some of the new stores had them installed and we figured why not boast about it.

Meal of the month

One popular thing about the Big Square that everyone celebrates is "Meal of the month". One because it came at a discount and two, it was the funs favourite. This section allowed site visitors to quickly order meal of the month and suggest a complimentary to go along with it.

Party Big

Game nights, karaoke and other events are activities the client likes to host in his food branches. We had to allow users to view a schedule of these events and book in advance.

Location Finder

With the business expanding into cities in Kenya, we had to allow site visitors locate their favourite stores. And get general information on them as well. Moreover, this allowed site visitors to reserve a table with the specific branch.

Font Uplift

A very important part of the project was to make sure it does not stray away too much from its "brand guidelines". I put it in quotes meaning they really did not have a cohesive brand bible that we could refer to but a few visual elements stuck out — the colours and brand motifs. Luckily, the client was open to exploration and that is what we exactly did.
